The betrayers 

As is expected of any struggle, there are bound to be betrayers. Even the Mau Mau war was not without the infamous home-guards (vibaraka ya wazungu) who sold their colleagues who were on a worthy course to liberate this great country. We were well aware the same thing would happen in Nation Centre when we embarked on this long journey to rid off this company of sex predators and idle editors who go smiling all the way to the bank and yet their contribution, if any, is very minimal in Nation’s publications. It’s a pity that the betrayers are ready to go to any lengths, even lick the asses of the sex-for-hire-or-promotion editors and managers, to win favours. But they make a fool of themselves and their masters. At least, the sex hungry editors and managers should have picked on moles who are slightly intelligence than kindergarten kids.  They picked on the wrong chaps. They picked on some empty-headed and loud mouths, whose investigation ability is no better than that of Sam Koskei (the security manager). Haven’t we been loosing variable property in the newsroom under the very watch of Koskei? If he has been unable to unearth the small-time crooks who have caused havoc in the newsroom by stealing anything – including women’s handbags – why does the management have a lof of faith in the former prison warder? His skills would have been put into better use at King’ong’o jail. To demonstrate how useless Koskei and his moles are, we have not entered the fourth month since we launched this campaign and the guys are still scratching their heads trying to unearth those behind the letters. We wish you luck guys. From today, we will be exposing and putting to shame any moles in our midst.  

Dorothy Kweyu (Revise Editor)

This is a woman who suffers from old age fever and she has refused to accept that she is now sell-by-date material. In an attempt to pour cold water in our campaign, Dorothy has been writing and circulating unsolicited emails lecturing the management on how they should use the IT Dept to bust those who write and circulate the letters exposing the sex predators.   The truth of the matter is that Dorothy is too jealous of Adhiambo Odera and she suffers from the false believe that she is still a hot babe. Look at the way Dorothy tries to look young by wearing skin tight skirts in the hope that she would evoke the appetite of the sex hungry men in Nation. Why does she go to great lengths to force her bottoms to protrude like those of Adhiambo? We know you wish you were in Adhiambo’s shoes right now, being the darling of influential bosses. You might have the right bottoms Dorothy but look at your face. Do you think it would excite any worthy man? You are expired commodity. Give up and leave the young to do their thing. Dorothy, your past stinks even more than for the editors we have exposed so far. You must shut up now or we will expose you too. Our research and analysis team is right now digging your history. Or you were shouting in advance fearing we were going to expose you? Hang on there.

 Owino Opondo (Parliamentary Editor)

This is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the tribalism that Joseph Odindo practices under the guise of promoting talent. Apart from being a loud mouth, this man has nothing to show for the big title he carries. He comes from the same village with Odindo. Odindo created the post for him and since the guy is most of the time idle, just like Odindo, he passes his time in the office reading and sending personal emails, listening to music and pretending to play the role of the dormant KUJ. His post was carved out of that held by Emman Omari – political. The two guys have posts which duplicate roles and they are some of the idle editors in Nation Centre. Emman is only good at taking stories written by reporters and pretending to re-write them. Instead of improving the copy, he ends up messing up the whole story. And for his unsolicited efforts, he sneaks his by-line on top of the reporter to look as if he wrote the story and the reporter made some few additions. His cover will soon be blown off.  Emman and other top Nation editors were named in the Goldenberg commission of inquiry as being part of the journalists and politicians who queued at Kamlesh Pattni’s office to receive cash handouts. He was given a new lease of life by Wangethi Mwangi, who also received bribes from Pattni and the corrupt figures in the Moi regime. This story is cooking somewhere. Just like Dorothy, Opondo has been writing and circulating unsolicited emails in support of the sex predators. He is one of the highly paid editors – all for just sitting and sending love emails the whole day. And what did he do when he was the Provincial Editor – Kisumu? Didn’t he influence the employment of a watchwoman to become a secretary after he had sex with her several times in the office and in Kisumu lodgings? Didn’t he influence the transfer of another girl he had an affair with in Kisumu to the reception on the ground floor of Nation Centre? Apart from going round with Helen Mbugua in universities under the guise of talent search, what else have they been doing together? Hoe many times have Opondo spent romantic nights in Helen’s hotel room during the “talent search outings”? Maybe Helen and Opondo have both found the hidden talents they have been pursuing together! We understand why Opondo would not want the sex maniacs exposed.  Ever since Opondo came to Nation, he has been having a burning desire to be the News Editor. Although Odindo has tried so hard to fix him there, the Kikuyu mafia that runs and controls NMG wont allow him. The parallel news desks for Daily Nation and Sunday Nation are headed by two Form Six graduates – Eric Shimoli and Catherine Gicheru. So far, the two dance to the tune of Wangethi and he has no reason to edge them out. There is nothing Wangethi loves more than sycophancy and the two have found no match in Nation. But why shouldn’t they when they know they have never seen the inside of a university and they supervise university graduates – some with even masters degrees. We are demanding that all Form Four and Form Six managers must leave. Mugo Njeru (Provincial Editor – Nyeri Bureau)

This guy is another Form Four material and he was rewarded with the title to his name after he falsely accused Stephen Muiruri (the Crime Editor who resigned in February) of being part of the team that has been exposing the sex predators. Nobody in the team compiling the dossier could agree to work with Muiruri. Who doesn’t know he was (and most likely he is) so close to Odindo and the CEO? Apart from the top guys in NMG, who else has the CEO’s cellphone apart from Muiruri? The fallout between Muiruri and the CEO looks like stagemanaged in an attempt to divert our attention and in the long run infiltrate our group. Linus, look for another trick. We would be shooting ourselves in the foot working with Muiruri! Njeru, you got it wrong on this guy. You used fraud to earn your promotion and your master should recall it.  Our representatives in Nyeri told us that this guy has been full of airs since he reported to office. He has been boasting that he was destined to be the next news editor. He says he had information that Shimoli is on his way out (most likely the Kikuyu mafia are baying for his blood because they would want one of their own at the crucial desk now that the General Election that will seal Kibaki’s fate is around the corner). He has been telling people that Linus Gitahi had promised him the job so that they could help Kibaki to win a second term. Let them make him the news editor and we will paralyse the operations of NMG and ensure no newspaper is published.  Mugo and Mugumo Munene are the face of corruption in the newsroom. When the two were covering the Goldenberg, they used to return to the newsroom with wads of bank notes (in Sh1,000 denomination), which they displayed to their friends and girlfriends. They boasted the cash was a gift from key suspects who wanted “good coverage”. And Wangethi, Odindo and the other editors know this but would never act because they were also beneficiaries. Mugumo, who was more generous than Njeru in displaying his ill-gotten wealth, often came with more than Sh100,000 after every single sitting. And soon after Goldenberg was over, the Arturs inquiry was constituted and it became another cash cow for Mugumo. Njeru was sidelined because he happened to be on leave and he had to cut short his leave. But it was too late. Lucas Barasa had been given the assignment together with Mugumo. Njeru often complained loudly in the newsroom why he was left out. Just like when the Goldenberg commission was sitting, Mugumo used to come with wads of new bank notes when he was covering the Kiruki commission on the Arturs brothers.  Mugumo was also at the centre of the brokers in the newsroom which were lobbying other reporters and editors to kill or water down stories on the Anglo Leasing scandal with promises of generous cash handouts. His links to Kamanis, Chris Murungaru, Jimmy Wanjigi, and all the Anglo Leasing mafia is no secret in the newsroom. But Wangethi can’t touch him. He, too, is deedly involved in the Anglo Leasing scandals cover up in the newsroom. He makes sure he comes to the newsroom when any story on the scandal is being written to control what is published and to strike out the names of his godfathers in the Anglo Leasing scandal. This is the money Mugomo uses to sleep around with girls like Jillo Kadida, Adhiambo Odera and others. The list is endless. And now Nation bosses have rewarded him with a six-months exchange programme in the US starting this month.   Njeru had been interdicted in 2005 when he and Emman tried to extort some money from Uhuru Kenyatta. But his suspension was quickly lifted when he threatened to expose how Odindo and Emman used to receive cash handouts from the Orange Camp (Raila, Kalonzo, Ruto etc) to give them better coverage. Emman was double edged. He ate from both the Orange and Banana camps. Corruption runs deep in our newsroom and Nation editors have a selective approach to exposing corruption. Corrupt politicians and civil servants who pay handsomely get a clean bill of health in Nation. A cable of well known reporters and editors targets politicians and civil servants for extortion. What happens in the gutter press is child’s play. We will expose the corrupt journalists in our midst soon. Our struggle continues and we don’t fear the small-time moles planted in the newsroom by Koskei and Linus.
